It’s the 3rd day of our tour of Japan. We started with our first show in Tokyo on Tuesday. We played last night in Nagoya. We are touring with two Mush and & Records labelmates: Lymbyc Systym, a duo from Phoenix (who are absolutely stunning live) and 4 Bonjour’s Parties, a delightful 7-piece band from Japan who put on a very charming show full of brass, vibraphone, and more. 4 Bonjour’s has been traveling on their own, while the Boy in Static 3-piece (me, Mike, Kenji) have been hanging out with Mike and Jared from Lymbyc Systym. The hotel televisions in Tokyo had us all up with fascinating commercials.
Kenji and Mike have been much more efficient with the cameras, so I’ve posted some pictures from their Flickr’s above. Mike’s also got a very thorough blog, which I’ll be hijacking here.
It’s my first time in Japan, and it’s been full-on sensory overload. We saw fish at 7am in Tsukiji, followed by cell phones from the future in Aikihabara. From Mike:
My favorite part [of Akihabara] was probably the huge rows of toy-filled vending machines, kind of like the sort you’d see outside of K-Mart, with the little acorn-shaped containers inside … The subways, by the way, are not only impeccably clean, but they’re almost silent. The people who aren’t sleeping (of which there are many) just keep to themselves or speak at sheepish volumes
Packing up now to go to Kyoto. More to come. But for now, Mike’s got a good summary of our trip so far:
Everything that Youtube tells you about Japanese television is true.
